Hermes

HermesHermes had incredibly humble origins as a god honoured by the shepherds of Arcadia. At the time he was associated with movement, action, the wind, profit both lawful and unlawful) and games of chance. He later became a patron of travellers, both in this world and the next, where he was a conductor of souls. He was also the messenger of the Gods, a task which he carried out with great diplomacy and tact.

Hermes was associated with learning and mental agility. He was often portrayed as an athletic runner, wearing a round winged hat and winged sandals. He carried the caduceus, symbolising good health and healing.

HermesIn short, Hermes was the god called upon for matters of knowledge, commerce, travel, healing and magick. Little wonder that eventually Hermes became renowned as a master magickian and reputed author of numerous philosophical texts.
