Zizaubio / Pleiades
Zizaubio is described as a holy angel from the company of the Pleiades. He is described as great, indestructible and fire-breathing. He rotates things upon the earth by the use of the rope of heaven. He manifests in the form of a recognisable friend with a star upon his head. The star is described as shining, but is sometimes fiery.
The Pleiades are an open white star cluster, in the constellation of Taurus. The number of stars in the cluster has been estimated at up to 500,000 but only a few are visible to the unaided eye. The Pleiades are also known as the Seven Sisters as seven of the stars have been known throughout antiquity.
The Pleiades were the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione. Pleione was an Oceanid, a daughter of Oceanus and Tethys, the titans who ruled the outer seas before being replaced by Poseidon. Atlas, another titan, led their war against the gods, and was afterward condemned by Zeus to hold up the heavens on his shoulders.
The Pleiades were Maia, Taygete, Electra, Alcyone, Celoeno, Sterope and Merope. They were nymphs in the company of Artemis. Maia, Taygete and Electra were loved by Zeus; Alcyone and Celoeno were loved by Poseidon; Sterope was loved by Ares; and Merope was loved by Sisyphus, a mere mortal.
When the great hunter Orion saw the Pleiades as they walked through the Boeotian countryside, he desired them. He pursued them for seven years, until Zeus answered their prayers for rescue and transformed them into doves, and later into stars which he placed in the sky.
Peleiades, means "flock of doves," and is probably the origin of their name.
In Egypt, the Pleiades were known as Chu or Chow, and represented the goddess Nit or Neith, the Shuttle, identified by the Greeks with Athene. It has also been suggested that they were called Athur-ai, the Stars of Athyr (Hathor), and that the seven chambers of the Great Pyramid commemorate them.
The Pleiades still exert a fascination today. New Agers connect with the energy of the Pleiades as a place linked to ancient wisdom, and UFO researchers investigate claims of contact with aliens originating from the Pleiades.
Zizaubio represents a means for accessing the energy of the Pleiades used by the Graeco-Egyptians magickians.
